If you want to be a real designer you need to be questioning about life; the creative ideas are intuitive from our understandings and the information we gain from them. The more we see and the more we learn, the greater the amount of energy we have for producing ideas, we are going to discuss on how to create memorable logo design. We will follow a process and it contains two steps mind mapping and sketching and then what to consider when organizing a presentation PDFs for the customer.
It’s basically a process to help you to better analyze and generate new possible design directions and ideas. We are using it now for associating words with images and symbols, so write a single word that is center of your design brief and then stretch it more means do some research and write more words and make large cloud as possible of these your thought that’s mapping with it and your target topic.
Mind mapping is exceptionally useful in the design field because it’s very effective for working through these steps in the design process:
- Collecting your thoughts
- Generating ideas
- Getting into a creative flow
- Associating words with images and symbols
Design isn’t rocket science, and this process is a tried and tested practice that works fine.
I started this specific mind map using “suit” as the key, insertion each connector in a separate “cloud” before dividing into all the words I could connect with the leading word. This helps direct my imagination otherwise might be I can’t go. If I stuck, I decide to go back to design brief and choose another key word, add it to the map, then search for connections. Thesaurus can help to trigger the process when you draw a blank.
Now shifting the map into shapes and symbols and patterns is quite sincere. For instance, some of these words could be there bottom, triangle, line, and circle. Blue and red are in there, too, as a quick color prompt. Spend couple of days of each project mapping word associations. Some distance from the project is productive, as is a rested mind. Once you completed map on the paper, you can use it as the keystone of the next step.
The need of the sketchpad
There are a lot of designing courses is available and most of them focus on computers, and designer think that computer is the most important or the only tool for designing. But you have more freedom on paper to translating your thoughts, it looks easier to process through computer but that will block your creative flow. Think the sketchpad as a playground of your imagination stay open mind and not limit yourself when sketching. Even if your idea seems too far, it’s good to make a visual note of every thought that comes to your mind. Drawing skills aren’t important. Important is that you produces many ideas before moving to your computer. Your mind map passes you to the important thoughts you can associate with the project you’ve been hired to identify. There could be a huge collection of possibilities with sketch based thoughts.
Too many design options
It’s not good to present all your ideas in your first presentation. There will surely be poor ones in the options. If there’s 10 options in the presentation and one bad and nine good and one bad idea has more chances to being picked out of ten. It becomes more difficult to choose one from 10 and choose one from 2 is easier. Voting from the general public is not always good it can create delays in the works because they may be don’t know the target audience and particularly if they don’t have any notable design experience. Any of these mistakes would be enough to delay the project.
Once you have done with different strong design options, put them into the PDF presentation slide show type. Because PDF easily open in windows and mac and it won’t change the fonts and formatting of the content. Only include the ideas on which you are on strong footing. I means there should be reasons of choosing colors, shapes and mood board should be there to explain the final result. Because week ideas dilute the quality of your good work.
Form before color
Color palette should be the last thing you need to get finalized, initially play with the shapes, forms, do illustration & finalize the details without colors until near the end because at this stage it is much easier to understand & change than the overall design options. And showing the color when presenting different design options, try using the same color palette for each design option.
Story board & Context
Presenting the designs in context is key to helping your client visualize how great you can make the company look. Choose your inspiration and match them with you shapes, forms, colors and even font anatomy.
In presentation incorporate your designs on all relevant mockups for example if the logo is for a food company it should incorporated on all packaging, billboards, delivery vehicles, website, any giveaway & stationery mockups, and so on. The more relevant elements you add, the more attractive the result will appear.
Usually client doesn’t have time take part on every step of design process. They focus on the end result, so the more noticeable your concepts, the more client can be visualize. Add the date as well in the presentation and there should be reference number as well it will help in back-and-forth with your client.
As much as we like to think otherwise, books are judged by their covers, so make your presentations looking proficient to retain client attention.
